Detailed Description

Overview

The Managing stress and well being through Mindfulness course offers you tools to help you remain calm, sustain your attention, and be able to focus and better manage the pressures of student life.

Mindfulness training for students is enjoyable and creative as well as productive course helping you to pay attention to the present moment through simple breathing and meditation practices which increase awareness of thoughts and feelings so as to reduce stress and anxiety and boost levels of attention and concentration.

Students are experiencing high levels of stress as they pursue personal, educational, and career goals. We become increasingly aware of its possible serious consequences for the health and psychological distress. Scientific research has shown that practising mindfulness can help manage stress and anxiety and enhance quality of life. It also proves that Mindfulness practice leads to high levels of cognitive control, emotional regulation and self­ awareness.

This course will cover the following elements:

  • ­ Introducing various mindfulness practices, including: mindful eating, movements, observing our thoughts and emotions.
  • ­ Feedback from home practice

Details

The course will consist of six 1.5 hour sessions with a requirement of a daily 10-­20 minutes home practice.

The full cost of the course is £40.

Course Leader

Your trainer will be Dr. Jolanta Babiuch-­Luxmoore, who is an associate lecturer at Oxford Brookes University and has worked as a qualified Mindfulness Teacher for over 5 years.

She has been running Mindfulness courses for students including in Oxford Brookes University. Currently she is writing an MSc in Mindfulness Based Approaches (MBAs) at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice (School of Psychology, Bangor University).
