Theme: Supervision: Professional decision-making for supervision; supervision for professional decision-making.

Last year's theme was 'Supervision in a changing societal landscape'. We are grateful for Louse Sheppard's keynote and all the presenters who contributed from the UK, Europe and around the world. Part of the landscape last year was the restriction on travel and the constant worry about infection. We recognise that we are still in a world of uncertainty and that different people would like to make different choices about travel and mixing in person. For this reason, we will be adopting a hybrid approach to the 2023 conference, including presenters and attendees both in person and online

The theme for 2023 is ‘Professional decision-making'. We would like to explore all aspects of the question of how practitioners decide what to do, including both supervisors' own choices, and how they support and facilitate the decision-making of their supervisees. Evidence-based practice includes, but is not limited to how we use formal research to inform our practice. At the same time, it goes beyond practising unreflectively following a hand-me-down model provided in a book or training programme. In between, we work with reflection, experiential learning, values and the knowledge embedded in the systems with which we are dealing in our supervision practice.  How and what do we know as practitioners; how and what do our supervisees know as a consequence of our work together?
