The course is aimed at architects and designers at any career stage who want to move beyond casual experimentation with AI and build a reliable, repeatable workflow they can integrate into practice. It covers rapid concept generation, visual brainstorming, precedent analysis, and client-facing presentation imagery, with emphasis on using AI as a component of design thinking rather than a substitute for it.

This two-session CPD course teaches architects and designers to use Midjourney as a structured design tool for ideation, creative exploration, and early-stage visual communication. The focus is on prompt craft - the skill of iterating text prompts with precision to steer AI toward images that reflect your design intent, rather than the model's statistical defaults.

Course Description

Participants will develop fluency in prompt construction and refinement, learn to control style, lighting, materiality, and composition, and work with reference images to steer generation with greater precision. The course also addresses authorship, copyright, and the ethical questions raised by using AI professionally — including how to document your creative process to establish and protect authorship in AI-assisted work.

Sessions will be led by Adam Holloway, architect and computational designer, and course leader of Digital Craft in Architecture at Oxford Brookes University. He has taught extensively at the Bartlett, Westminster University, and London Metropolitan University. His work explores how digital tools can extend human creativity and apply innovation to create inspiring spaces.

Oxford Brookes University CPD & Training Unit is committed to providing high-quality training opportunities. We recognise that on occasion delegates will book onto our courses and subsequently find that they are unable to attend. In these situations, we ask that participants notify us of their need to cancel as soon as possible.

You have a 14-day 'cooling-off' period from your date of booking to receive a full refund, unless the application deadline has already passed or the course begins during those 14 days.
If you notify us of your cancellation more than 14 days before the start of the course, we will provide a full refund or a one-time transfer to the next available course run (if applicable), provided all scheduled course dates within 12 months are available at the time of transfer.
If you notify us of your cancellation less than 14 days prior to the start of the course, we will offer a one-time transfer to the next available course run (if applicable), provided all scheduled course dates within a 12-month period are available at the time of transfer. Otherwise, the full fee will be payable regardless of the reason (e.g. personal circumstances, inclement weather or travel delays).
Where participants have booked a place at an event and do not attend, the full fee will be payable.

Where participants experience persistent technical difficulties after joining a course, please notify us at hlscpdadmissions@brookes.ac.uk as soon as possible. We will provide the opportunity of a one-time transfer to the next available course run (if applicable), provided all scheduled course dates within a 12-month period are available at the time of transfer.

To ensure a high-quality experience, courses require a minimum number of participants and may be cancelled if registration is insufficient.
