Course Description

This practical one-day CPD workshop is designed for built environment professionals who want to move beyond traditional BIM modelling and develop information-rich models that support integrated, data-driven digital workflows.

Participants will explore how structured BIM information can be used to support downstream applications including project scheduling, cost management, asset management, automation, AI-supported analysis and Digital Twin development.

The session takes a workflow-based approach rather than focusing solely on individual software tools, helping participants understand how information moves from model creation through to data extraction, analysis and decision-making. Participants will also explore how AI tools such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot can support BIM information planning, parameter development, naming conventions and model quality-checking workflows.

Course Content

The workshop covers:

  • BIM principles: understanding the difference between geometry and information

  • Structured BIM modelling, including families, parameters and naming conventions

  • Level of Information Need (LOD/LOI) and information requirements

  • Preparing BIM models for scheduling, costing and asset management

  • BIM as a foundation for Digital Twin development

  • Using AI tools to support BIM parameter planning, asset information templates and quality-checking processes

  • Creating information-rich BIM models suitable for integrated digital workflows

Practical Activities

Participants will gain hands-on experience with:

  • Creating BIM models in Revit

  • Adding structured parameters such as cost information and asset IDs

  • Generating schedules and exporting BIM data

  • Using AI tools to support BIM information structuring and review
